There are THREE parts to this: on separate paper, to turn in and be graded.

1) Take notes during the talk, write them down on paper, indicating as you go which points refer to ethos (E), pathos (P), and logos (L)

2) From your first set of notes, write down a good outline of the talk, circle key-terms and underline key-propositions, showing the steps in the argument leading to the conclusion

3) Analyze the last two of the classic three basic philosophical-religious questions, i.e. what must the speaker think about b) the nature of human beings, and c) therefore, what is required for a person to be happy.

C)Comparison of Readings (10 points)

Choose one of the two groups of readings that follow. Then analyze them by comparing and contrasting their ideas of a) universe, b) human person, c) happiness BY STAGING A MOCK CONVERSATION BETWEEN ALL OF THE THINKERS as they chime in on each topic. You must support your conversational remarks using explicit ideas and passages from the texts! All three of the BPRQ’s must come up in the conversation, and all four of the authors must join in! Enjoy!

Group 1: Aristotle, James, Aquinas, Tolkien; or, Group 2: Kuhn, Aristotle, Sartre, Solzhenitsyn.
