2. Study design

Identify and justify the most appropriate study design to answer your research aim OR question. You must use references to support and justify the selected study design (approximately 250 words). Refer to Topic 4: Qualitative study designs for information on different study designs. 3. Sampling and recruitment

Identify, describe and justify your sample including inclusion and exclusion criteria (eligibility criteria), sampling method, sample size and recruitment strategy. You must use references to support and justify the sampling and recruitment approach (approximately 150 words).

Design a flyer or advertisement that you could use to recruit people to participate in your study (approximately 150 words). This will be attached to your report as appendix 1.

Refer to Topic 5: Qualitative sampling and data collection approaches for assistance. 4. Data collection

Identify, describe and justify one appropriate data collection method (remember it must be qualitative). Explain where your data collection is going to take place. You must use references to support and justify the data collection approach (approximately 150 words).

Develop a topic guide – a list of questions you will ask your participants in order to collect data (approximately 150 words).

Refer to Topic 5: Qualitative sampling and data collection approaches for assistance. 5. Proposed data analysis

Discuss how you might approach analysing the data. You must use references to support the proposed analysis plan (approximately 150 words). Topic 6: Qualitative data analysis, writing and quality assessment may assist you with this section. 6. Rigour

Outline three (3) strategies you could use to ensure the rigour (quality) of your proposed qualitative study (approximately 150 words). Refer to Topic 6: Qualitative data analysis, writing and quality assessment for assistance. You must support your strategies with references. 7. Ethics

Outline how the principle of protection from harm will be applied by discussing the expected benefits and risks of the proposed qualitative study (approximately 150 words).

Discuss how the principle of informed consent will be applied in your proposed qualitative study (approximately 100 words).

Identify how the principle of confidentiality/anonymity will be maintained in your study (approximately 100 words).

You should support this discussion with references as appropriate. 8. Reflection

Choose one of the following population groups identified by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) as requiring particular consideration:

• Young people under the age of 16
• People who may be involved in illegal activities
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Reflect on how you would need to modify your study to suit this population group (approximately 300 words). You will ideally consider sampling, data collection methods and ethical considerations. 9. Reference list

You will have two (2) appendices in your report: Appendix 1 will be the flyer/advertisement (as devised in step 2) and Appendix 2 will be your topic guide (as devised in step 3).
